What are warning signs of suspension trouble?
A failing suspension can decrease safety and lead to bumpy driving. When you first suspect a suspension problem, you'll want to get to the shop for an inspection. At Cypress Tire & Car Care Center, our local mechanics are experts at diagnosing and fixing suspension trouble. Give us a call when you notice any of the following signs of a suspension issue.
Common Symptoms of Suspension Failure
Symptoms of suspension trouble sometimes emerge during the braking process. If your suspension isn't working properly, then it could take longer to arrive at a complete stop after you first engage the brakes. Also, a suspension problem can make it feel like your car is nose-diving while braking.
A well-known indication of a bad suspension is that your car becomes bouncy even if you're driving on a road that isn't really bumpy. If you're driving with a damaged spring, then clunking sounds may emerge. A failing spring can also cause your vehicle to slouch in the affected corner.
You'll want to be mindful of a few other signs of suspension trouble. If your shocks have oil leaking out onto them, then they're likely due for replacement. A faulty suspension can also cause tire tread to wear down unevenly, which can then lead to the formation of bald spots on tires. And if it feels like your car is drifting/swaying when you go around corners, then you may be dealing with a suspension issue.
Fails the Bounce Test
If it seems like your suspension may not be in great shape, you can do a quick test to get a better idea. To start, be sure your vehicle is safely parked and definitely won't roll. Then go to the front end, press down hard on it, rock it two times, and release. Next, go to the rear end and do the exact same thing. When you let go, your car shouldn't rock more than three times on its own. But if it does, then suspension trouble could be brewing.
