Easy Ways to Lower Your Fuel Expenditures

Easy Ways to Lower Your Fuel Expenditures

Gas prices are expected to remain high for the rest of the year, making it all the more beneficial to take some gas-saving measures. Some such measures are easy to do as you drive to work and back each day, while others can be handled at the shop in little time and for a low cost. At Cypress Tire & Car Care Center, our local mechanics can complete any type of maintenance that you need to boost gas mileage.

Quick Tips for Boosting MPGs

As you go about your daily driving routine, one very simple way to ensure fuel isn't going to waste is to always tightly secure your gas cap after you fill up your tank. A loose or missing gas cap can lead to fuel evaporating before your engine gets the chance to run on it. You'll also want to be sure that your tire pressure is at the right level. Tire pressure is typically supposed to be at a point between 30 and 35 psi. It's best to check your tires' exact pressure requirement and then inflate them as specified. When you drive with correct tire pressure, your engine won't have to exert extra power to get soft rubber to roll forward. As a result, gas mileage improves. Proper tire pressure also reduces the risk of a blowout occurring.

At our shop, we can quickly and affordably conduct certain types of maintenance that will help your vehicle attain optimal fuel-efficiency. Fuel filters should be changed every 20,000 to 30,000 miles, which will help to prevent contaminants from negatively impacting gas mileage and engine performance. Air filters should be replaced every 12,000 to 15,000 miles, which will permit the proper quantity of air to get to the combustion chamber. In turn, your engine won't burn extra fuel to make up for a lack of air. Other routine maintenance tasks we can do that will boost MPGs are oil changes and spark plug replacement.
